Discussion Questions

1. Read for yourself John 21:15-25. What stands out to you as you read this passage?

2. Right before today's reading is another important passage. The resurrected Jesus

appeared to His disciples on the lake shore as they fished. This passage plays out

almost exactly like when Jesus first called these disciples. Read it for yourself, John

21:1-14. How does this passage help you to understand what happens next?

3. When Jesus was on trial, Peter denied being His follower three times. Denying Jesus

must have really shattered Peter’s sense of calling. Knowing Peter’s pain, Jesus met him

and asked him three times, “Peter, do you love me?” each time erasing a denial Peter

made and restoring his position among the disciples. Do you find the restoration of Peter

to be encouraging in your own walk with Christ, why or why not?

4. Jesus doesn't abandon or turn away from Peter, He restores Peter. Peter is feeling

down, but it’s right in that low place that Jesus meets him. This is great news for anyone

who has ever felt close to Jesus, but then struggled to follow Him during hard times.

Jesus meets us in our hard moments, bringing healing and restoration. Has Jesus ever

met you during a hard time? What was that experience like?
