Blessed: Everyday Thankfulness (week 4) Fullness of Life
Discussion Questions
1. Today is the fourth week of our sermon series called, “Blessed: Everyday Thankfulness.” Being thankful is more of a lifestyle than an attitude. Today we are looking at what it means to live life to the fullest. Most people want to live a good, happy, healthy, and productive life. But as Christians what does it mean to live life to the fullest? What are your thoughts about what a “good life” looks like?
2. The Bible has many things to teach us about thankfulness. Our scripture reading today is Colossians 3:15-17 & John 10:10. Take time to read these passages for yourself. What stands out to you as you read?
3. In the second half of John 10:10 Jesus states part of His reason for coming, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Jesus is the giver of all good gifts, every blessing we experience comes from Him, including the ultimate blessings of grace, mercy, and salvation. This means regardless of your current life circumstances, if you are in Christ, and He is in you, you have plenty of things to be thankful for. What would it look like for someone to be able to focus on these “good gifts” even if on the surface it looked like everything was going poorly in their lives?
4. Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.” Notice here there is no attention given to the current circumstances of one’s life. It doesn’t say, “if everything is going well, let the peace of Christ …” Or “as long as you are healthy let the peace of Christ …” The message is simple, let Christ’s peace rule in your hearts and be thankful. This isn’t just about having an emotion; it’s about making a choice to let Christ’s peace rule regardless of life’s circumstances. Take some time to pray about this.
