ISAIAH 11: 2-6, 10
(Continue reading out loud these Scriptures and their application.)
Isaiah continues to describe the characteristics of this saving shoot from the family tree of King David. Notice the characteristics of our Messiah: our promised and prophesied Savior, our saving shoot, full of God’s Spirit, wisdom, counsel, power, and the knowledge and reverence of God. Isaiah tells his people that this Messiah will delight in perfect obedience, He will judge righteously and justly provide for the poor.
But Isaiah warns us that the coming Messiah will not only save us, He will also strike the earth with the rod of His mouth and slay the wicked with the breath of His lips. We are told He will wear righteousness as His belt and faithfulness as a sash around his waist. He will be a mighty King who walks in humility and honor at the same time! It is true that God’s people have had difficult times, but they have always had reason to celebrate.
