ISAIAH 9:7 and COLOSSIANS 3:14
We have looked at things to come and we have looked at things passed. Isaiah 9:7, in the Contemporary English version, tells us that everything prophesied will come to pass because, “The passionate commitment of the Lord Almighty will guarantee this.”
What a beautiful promise! When God gives us a prophecy in His Word, He is giving us a promise that cannot be thwarted! These promises are based on three eternal truths:
1. His love for His people,
2. His faithfulness to His people,
3. And His power over all things.
Jesus proved this in His first coming when He came as a newborn babe, born to a poor carpenter. Still, He did not fall prey to King Herod’s command for the entire Roman Army to search out and slaughter every male infant born in the same vicinity and in the same time period of Jesus. Because God was able to bring about this-and many more fulfilled prophecies-in Jesus’ first coming, we can also be assured that God will fulfill all of His future prophecies as well. Why? The passionate commitment of the Lord Almighty will guarantee this! (Isaiah 9:7)
We see here that love is what drives God to fulfill His prophecies and deliver His promises to us. Colossians 3:14 tells us that we are also to be driven by God’s love in all that we do. “Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together.” May our lives reflect not only God’s love in us; but may we also express our love back to him through our thoughts, words, and deeds.
